Rideau Hall Foundation schedules November 2 Indigenous teacher retention grant launch
The Rideau Hall Foundation lists November 2, 2026 as the opening date for its 2026 Indigenous Teacher Education Retain grant call. The foundation says the competitive stream has $1 million available, with eligible organizations able to seek up to $200,000 for projects lasting one to three years. Priorities include mentorship, wellness, professional development and language- and culture-based teaching supports. The foundation lists March 2027 as the application deadline month but has not specified an exact closing date.
Education: TRC Call #62 includes funding to prepare teachers to integrate Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods, while Call #63 addresses ongoing Indigenous education priorities and teacher-training needs. This private foundation grant is relevant to those objectives, but it does not discharge governments' obligations under either Call. The foundation describes an application opportunity, not awarded grants or verified improvements in teacher retention.
Accountability: Which organizations receive funding, what proportion of supported teachers remain in classrooms, and how will Indigenous educators and communities assess whether the supports meet their needs? The opening date is based on the foundation's published schedule; live availability of an application form was not independently confirmed.
